Godspell, Jr. Class Description
This musical theatre program is packed with instruction in singing, dancing and acting. To accomplish this, the script and score of GODSPELL, JR. will be used like a text book. GODSPELL, JR. is an ensemble show based on parables taken from St. Matthew in the Bible and features a well-known score by Academy Award-winner Stephen Schwartz. A few of the show’s songs are the international hit Day By Day along with All Good Gifts, Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord, Learn Your Lessons Well and All For The Best. The script and score bring the life of Jesus humanly and hearteningly to the stage. This DSM Academy program is team taught by three academy instructors – a choreographer, a stage director and a musical director. Our instructors are working professionals with Broadway and international credits. Vocal and dance warm-ups, jazz combinations, acting skills, stage technique, mime, vaudeville, creative storytelling and improvisations are all part of the course. Instruction will be adapted to beginners as well as more advanced students so experience is not necessary. Audition sides and music are made available prior to the start of the program. Auditions are held at the first class. Most costumes and props will be supplied by DSM Academy and some may be borrowed from home. This is a full production class that ends with public performances of GODSPELL, JR. at The Creative Arts Theatre in Fair Park on April 14, 2012 at 1:00 and 4:00pm.  Invite your friends, family and neighbors to this inspiring student production that offers messages of kindness, tolerance and love!

Class Description for The Rocker’s New Rags
Full Production Class for Ages 6-14
THE ROCKER’S NEW RAGS is a musical theatre adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fable THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES only this time the emperor is a rock star. The musical is set in present time on a Hollywood sound stage and centers on the task of filming a music video for the song Hey Ho! The rocker cannot find any costumes acceptable to wear for the shoot. This keeps the crew, costumers, backup singers and extras scrambling. Two mysterious characters show with a trunk, a bunch of magic tricks and the determination to convince everyone that they can weave the most fabulous rocker costume anyone can imagine. All are convinced after hearing the song, It’s a World of Magic, but who will pay to have the extraordinary costume made? The producer won’t. The rocker won’t. The backup singers, crew costumers and extras won’t. Frustrated, the rock star storms off and while away, extras pitch in and help to weave an extraordinary (and to some invisible) costume in the song Stupendous, Wicked, Unreal, but does the rocker ever return to wear it?

THE ROCER’S NEW RAGS is a lively ensemble musical where every student gets plenty of stage time to sing, dance and act. The score is written in the style of Disney pop rock with a couple of bluegrass tunes thrown in for fun. Lessons regarding vanity, materialism and self-esteem are addressed in the plot. No theatrical experience is necessary to participate. Classes are team taught by three DSM Academy instructors – a stage director/acting coach, choreographer and musical director and meet from 5:15 – 7:15pm with some classes extended to 7:45pm. Additional rehearsals for characters performing magic illusions will be scheduled. Most costumes and props will be supplied by DSM Academy and some may be borrowed from home. The final performance for each class is at The Hall of State Theatre in Fair Park on April 29, 2012 at 2:30pm (Thursday class) and 4:30pm (Tuesday class). All performances are free to the public, so invite the neighborhood!
