JUNE MUSICAL THEATRE CLASS DESCRIPTION-Selections from FROG & TOAD
Ages 6-12
Let the kids have a Broadway blast this June in a musical theatre class sponsored by Dallas Summer Musicals Academy of Performing Arts. In this program, students concentrate on Broadway style dance training and singing skills with a DSM Academy choreographer and music director. The score and script of A Year with Frog and Toad is used as a text book.

About the Show
Waking from hibernation in the spring, Frog and Toad plant gardens, swim, rake leaves, go sledding, and learn life lessons along the way. The two best friends celebrate and rejoice in their differences that make them unique and special. Part vaudeville, part make believe, all charm, A Year with Frog and Toad tells the story of a friendship that endures, weathering all seasons. The jazzy, upbeat score bubbles with melody and wit, making it an inventive, exuberant, and enchanting musical.

An end-of class performance of A Year with Frog and Toad will be presented at The Hall of State Theatre in Fair Park on June 22, 2013 around noon. The exact performance time will be announced when all June classes have finished enrolling. The presentation is open to the public and free. So invite the neighborhood! No theatrical experience is necessary to participate. Most costumes and props will be supplied by DSM Academy and some may be borrowed from home. This June let the kids learn skills that belong in the spotlight.

About the Show
The story follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a band he vows to organize - this despite the fact he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by the end.

Performances of Meredith Wilson’s MUSIC MAN, JR. by the Park Cities class are Saturday July 27, 2013,  2:30 & 4:30pm at the Baker Theatre (home of Dallas Children’s Theatre) in The Rosewood Center for Family Arts, 5938 Skillman St., Dallas, TX 75231. Each student receives 6 complimentary tickets to either the 2:30 or 4:30pm show. Additional tickets are a $10 donation each. Since this is a full production show, the technical rehearsal is mandatory on Thursday, July 25th, 5:30-10pm, Baker Theatre. No theatrical experience is necessary to participate.
